PALMSHIELD EXCLUSIVES – ARCHITECTURAL SCREENING IN KANSAS CITY

Picture Frame Design

PalmSHIELD’s architectural screening, gates, and rooftop screening utilizes the industry’s only picture frame design. Each design features rigid panels fully capable of standing independently, the design providing a sturdy framework that likewise helps prevent unwanted twisting and warping. What’s more, PalmSHIELD’s products are easily removed and reinstalled, provide excellent ventilation, keep items out of sight, and can be configured as rooftop screening, swing gates, slide gates, grills, and screens.

Cable Railings

Having been in the business 55+ years, we’ve designed fully framed cable railing systems, as well as welded frame and field, assembled designs — both of which can be field modified to accommodate elevation and direction. Full-frame systems are essential because cable railing requires at least 10 cables tightened to a pull force exceeding 1,000 lb. Without a full frame, the system pulls significantly where the post is anchored to the surface. This is not always predictable and can result in system failure. As the industry leader in cable railing systems, PalmSHIELD fabricates systems for both interior and exterior applications.

Gorilla Hinge

PalmSHIELD’s Gorilla Hinges use 1/2″ plated to mount gated and gate posts. Also featuring offsets on the hinge plates, the gates are allowed to shut slightly beyond the full close position. This design element was incorporated to improve the efficiency of field adjustments. Sometimes, gate posts are set an 1/8″ to a 1/16″ out of square; a typical hinge would not allow the gate to come to a full close unless the gate post was set perfectly square. PalmSHIELD’s staff recognizes field irregularities occur, and we’ve dedicated ourselves to finding a solution that allows customers additional flexibility.

SPECS ON PALMSHIELD ARCHITECTURAL SCREENING IN KANSAS CITY

PalmSHIELD’s louvered screening are custom fabricated, allowing users to determine visibility and airflow. Louvers may be placed vertically, horizontally, or even diagonally. PalmSHIELD is unique in providing the industry’s widest louver:

  • .1250 thickness
  • 2” x 2.873” tall installed profile

The entire profile is sloped for airflow and reduced visibility. We also offer a wide arrange of perforated metal, square welded or woven wire mesh, and grating infill options. Only PalmSHIELD uses 3” x 3” x ¼” angle vertical supports, each louver welded to the vertical supports; and our welded wire mesh, grating, and perforated metal are shop welded in accordance with IBC and UBC codes. Because of the larger vertical support, PalmSHIELD provides a 2 ¾” weldable surface for attaching louvers. But what really distinguishes PalmSHIELD from other architectural screening in Kansas City are the 3” x 3” x ¼” angle top and bottom caps. Most systems do not provide a rigid top cap, which protects the panel from debris, hail, etc. while the bottom cap protects the screening from foot traffic and damage inflicted by lawnmowers.

PalmSHIELD uses a 2” x 1/8” aluminum flat bar not to exceed 24” apart to support the louvers between the framework and to prevent intruders from spreading louvers apart. PalmSHIELD uses a 4” square x ¼” or 3/8” wall post. The larger and thicker walled posts is suited for high wind and snow loads. Posts typically do not exceed 60” on center. All nuts, bolts, and fasteners are made from stainless steel. If swing gates are incorporated into your system, only our Gorilla Hinges are used.

Once fabrication’s finished, materials are sweep blasted and powder coated. Sweep blasting removes foreign debris and opens the aluminum up for adhesion. PalmSHIELD uses polyester powder coating in accordance with material hardness. Custom colors are available.
